abstract = "Most studies that involve correlations between the spectral and
the woods volume data do not consider the effect of the sampling
window size. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of
the sampling window size on the spectral data and analyze the
correlations between the spectral and the woods volume data in a
Cerrado Sensu Stricto fragment. The spectral data were collected
from an image in the satellite Landsat 5 TM. The reflectance
values of the pixels in TM1, TM2, TM3, TM4 and TM5 bands and in
the NDVI and SR vegetation indices were collected considering
                         three sizes of sampling window: 1 pixel, 3 x 1 pixels and 3 x 3
pixels. A completely randomized design was considered in the
experiment evaluation. To determine the relationship between the
spectral and the volume data the Pearsons correlation coefficient
was used. No significant effect of the sampling windows was
                         observed in the reflectance values in TM1, TM2, TM3, TM4 and TM5
bands nor in the NDVI and SR vegetation indices. The correlation
coefficients for the 1 pixel window were slightly higher than the
                         values obtained for the window 3 x 1 pixels and 3 x 3 pixels.
Thus, the spectral information considered in the analysis were
extracted from the 1 pixel window. The best correlation value was
observed between the volume and the reflectance TM4 band.",
